● The Valley of the Kings
Against the backdrop of the rugged mountains of Thebes and the surrounding desert - for the ancient Egyptians the entrance to the realm of the dead - a huge complex of funerary monuments was built on the western side of the Nile, which is opposite the modern city of Luxor. The Valley of the Kings includes tombs and temples of incomparable magnificence, built to cherish the memory of the deceased kings and queens, but above all to build a "house for eternity" for them. Since the ancient Greeks, people have been magically drawn to these stone monuments, even if it is to rob them. Since the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb, the place has become legendary worldwide. ● Karnak temple
Besides the pyramids of Giza, the highlight of every journey to Egypt: the Karnak Temple. The complex is not only beautiful and shows a lot of Egyptian history, but the whole area around the temple also conveys a sense of the "real Egypt". This Temple of Karnak was huge and its ruins are spread over 100 hectares. The oldest surviving buildings in Karnak date from the 12th Dynasty of Ancient Egypt and thus from the early 2nd millennium BC. The temple complex consists of three walled areas, the district of Amun, the district of Mont, and the district of Mut. The Temple of Amun-Re has 10 monumental pylons, which are sacred buildings that represent the entrance area to a temple and tomb and the two towers of which are connected to an overbuilt gate in the middle. New buildings and extensions to the facility followed until the Roman Empire. Today it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

● The mortuary temple of Queen Hatshepsut
The terraced temple of Pharaoh Hatshepsut in Deir el-Bahari on the left bank of the Nile across from Karnak is one of the greatest monuments of ancient Egyptian culture. The pharaoh Hatshepsut ruled Egypt for 20 years and was one of the few female rulers. The self-confident pharaoh Hatshepsut was known for having her own ideas of an architectural style for other buildings, such as the Red Chapel in the Karnak Temple. Under the reign of Hatshepsut was the Empire in its heyday. The first editions of the Egyptian Book of the Dead on papyrus date from her reign. The globally unique construction of the Hatshepsut Temple corresponded to the powerful ruler in whose honor this structure was built. Hatshepsut was the only female pharaoh in the long history of Egypt. Numerous reliefs, statues, and columns adorn the entire complex and tell from the past.

● Colossi of Memnon
Amid fertile fields, two gigantic quartzite seats rise up: the Colossi of Memnon. The statutes once guarded the mortuary temple of Pharaoh Amenhotep III, of which almost nothing has survived today. The legend of the song of Memnon, with which he greeted his mother Eos, the goddess of the dawn, made the colossi a much-visited wonder of the world even in ancient times. It fell silent when the northern statue, whose upper body was exposed to an earthquake in 27 BC. Chr. It was restored 200 years later.

- Not all graves are open to the public. Some of the graves are permanently closed, while others may be closed for restoration purposes. In the Valley of the Kings, you can visit 2 to 3 graves

- If you want to see the resting place of Tut Ench Amuns, you have to pay an additional entrance ticket.

- There is now a complete ban on photos for the entire Valley of the Kings. Cameras have to be handed in when entering and are only given again when leaving.

- With the purchase of a video ticket for EGP 300, you can take photos/videography in one grave per ticket. An exception is the grave of Seti I. Tickets are only available at the ticket booth near the Colossi of Memnon, not on site. All graves now have an explanation at the grave entrance on a modern and informative board about the history, architecture, and decoration.
